Eccentric French graphic artist, cartoonist and photographer, Fred Boot, left his digital designer life in Paris to continue his artistic journey in Hong Kong in 2007.
The objective of his latest project—The New Walled City—is to present a myriad of contemporary facets of Hong Kong in graphic documentary form, aiming to bring to life a global portrait of a city facing many challenges. In it we can see drug addiction, modern slavery, immigration control, freedom of speech, and environmental challenges. A multimedia project consisting of photography, graphic design, comics, collages and videos, Boot’s work provides a forum for the city’s most humble revealing aspects on the other side of physical and mental walls.
